We’ve got our bikes and hit the road on South American soil for the first time!

After a few issues at the start, Torsten travelled 80h to get here, lost his luggage, Thomas rectifier had a loose connection (2h job on the side of the road to fix it because tank and airbox had to be taken off!) we finally set off.

Custom clearance for the bikes went quite smooth. Got our bikes from the depot just after lunch. Packing our stuff on the bikes was a bitmore  challenging. Really thought this time I’m travelling light but again ended up throwing things away before the trip has started. Probably I’ll get rid of more things throughout the trip. There is nothing more anoying riding with to much stuff which is not really necessary.

Day 1 was only 70km because we didn’t get the bikes from customs before 2 o’clock and then had the problem on Thomas bike. Overnight stay in a little Cabana in a small village north of Valparaiso.

Day 2, late start again, needed to change both tyres on Thomas bike to a set of Heidenau K60 Scout which have more offroad abilities then the series Metzler Sahara 3. After that everything went fine, smooth day of riding a long a beahtiful coast line. We could get a glimpse of the vast landscape ahead of us especially when we get to Argentinia, Bolivia and Peru. We stayed on roads only and after 330Km we found a nice camp spot directly on the beach in Tongoy. The next 2 days will be road only again before we cross the Andes to Argentinia an the get into very high altitude offroad terrain.
